The advantage
of Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) & Hybrid Vehicle
The Malaysia Natural Gas Vehicles or known as NGV was
initially developed and launched in 1998, when Petronas created Enviro 2000
the first NGV taxis use on Malaysia Roads.
Natural Gas
Vehicles is the cleanest burning
transportation fuels. Why?
- Natural gas does not contaminate lakes or rivers because it quickly dissipates into atmosphere
- Produce less greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide which leads to global warming.
- Reduce heavy duty particles such as nitrogen oxides
- Reduce noise pollution

In July 2012, Honda announced that they will produce Hybrid Car
locally. The first Hybrid Car assembly in Malaysia is Honda Jazz Hybrid
at Honda plant, Melaka.
Hybrid car is a car that uses two power sources to
move the car which are diesel fuel and electric motor. However, It is not a new
invention. This technology has been introduced around 19th
century. What is Hybrid about?
When the car comes to a stop, engine will shut off and
restarts when accelerator is pressed. These save energy during idling or when
you are stuck in a long traffic jam.
Otherwise, when the driver brakes, the car loses kinetic
energy. The brakes get hot. Energy came from the fuel, and now it is wasted. Hybrid
stored energy during braking. Energy that produces by motor during braking and
coasting will be stored in battery and use back for electric motor. The stored
energy in batteries can power the vehicle for 241 km or more.
The best benefit of them all, Hybrid and NGV have lower
emission of carbon dioxide. Not only that, Hybrid and NGV car user can benefit
from the incentives that government is currently giving out to promote the
usage of hybrid and NGV vehicle and at the same time to lower 40% of carbon
emission by 2020. There is a drawback about purchasing hybrid car where they are
more expensive and the cost for maintaining an NGV vehicle is also high.
